Firstly it’s important to understand how the abdominals work so you can perform exercises correctly to target your abs. The abdominals muscle group is made up of the transverse abdominus, rectus abdominus and obliques. The transverse abdominus helps stabilise the trunk of your body and wraps around the whole of the abdominal area. The obliques are located on either side of your mid section and are responsible for twisting movements. The rectus abdominus is in the middle of your trunk and is the muscle group responsible for the six-pack you want to achieve.
